BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - As it had in each of its previous three victories, TCU posted a shutout Saturday afternoon, blanking UAB 7-0 at Jerry D. Young Memorial Field.

Less than 24 hours after Clayton Jerome pitched the Frogs to a thrilling 1-0 win over the Blazers, it was Kyle Shoemaker's (Edmond, Okla./Santa Fe) turn to hold the UAB offense at bay. Shoemaker was more than up to the task, as the senior tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out five. The southpaw upped his record to 4-2 on the season.

Shoemaker began the Frogs' string of shutouts, as he earned the win in TCU's 8-0 whitewashing of Southwest Texas on April 1. Jerome, who has thrown 16 consecutive scoreless innings, was the pitcher of record in the other two blankings, Friday's heart-stopper versus UAB and last Saturday's 8-0 triumph at Memphis.

Unlike Friday, the Horned Frog offense was as effective as its pitching, as TCU (22-15, 9-5 C-USA) tallied all seven runs in the third through fifth innings to cruise to the win.

Thanks to a pair of UAB (21-12, 6-7 C-USA) errors, the Horned Frogs were able to hang two runs off Blazer starter Jon Burgett in the top of the third inning to claim the first lead of the ballgame.

Shortstop Shaff Elkouri (Norman, Okla./Asher) led off the two-run third by singling to center field. Ramon Moses (Panama City, Panama/Colegio LaSalle) and Terry Trofholz (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) reached on consecutive errors to bring Elkouri across with the first run of the game before Mike Settle (Fort Worth, Texas/Country Day) made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly to left field.

TCU benefited from another Blazer miscue in the fourth to stretch its advantage to 3-0. After catcher Justin Hatcher (Fort Worth, Texas/Brewer) singled, he stole second and third base and came home on UAB catcher Eugene Rodriguez's errant attempt to throw Hatcher out at third.

Following Burgett's departure from the contest with the bases loaded in the fifth inning, TCU second baseman Will Lewis (Texarkana, Ark./Texarkana) welcomed UAB reliever Jeff Brown to the game with a three-run triple down the left field to blow the game open at 6-0. Jake Duncan (Marshall, Texas/Marshall) added an RBI single in the fifth to make it 7-0 Horned Frogs.

From there, Shoemaker and two Horned Frog relievers kept UAB off the board to complete the shutout. Right-handers Clint Mokry (Taylor, Texas/Taylor) and Zach Duncan (Marshall, Texas/Marshall) each pitched a scoreless inning to get in on the combined shutout.

Jared Lundeen (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Burnsville) registered the only multi-hit game for TCU, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Eight of the nine starters in the Horned Frog lineup recorded a hit.

TCU will go for the sweep of the three-game series when the two teams meet again noon Sunday at Young Memorial Field.
