PROVO, Utah - BYU starting pitcher Patrick Wells stymied the Horned Frog offense, helping the Cougars avoid the sweep as the Frogs fell 6-4 to BYU in Provo Saturday afternoon. Ryan Pack's two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning briefly gave TCU the lead, but a four-run bottom of the inning by the Cougars erased the Frogs lead, ending TCU's nine game conference win streak.

For the second game in the series, the Cougars jumped out to the early lead. Seth Johnson led off the bottom of the first with a double to the right field gap. A ground ball moved Johnson to third and Ben Saylor singled through the right side to give BYU the 1-0 lead. While Jeff Heistand was at the plate, he lost track of the count and trotted to first on a 3-1 count. Saylor moved off of first and an alert play by Sam Demel erased Saylor from the bases as he picked him off. Heistand eventually walked and moved to second on a base hit by Kasey Ko before Demel got a ground ball to end the inning.

The Frogs didn't waste any time tying the game as Andrew Walker delivered with his second home run of the series. With one out in the second, Walker blasted the ball over the left field fence for his fifth home run of the season.

TCU took its first lead of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Steven Trout led off with a base hit up the middle. After he stole second, a deep fly ball off the bat of Chad Huffman allowed Trout to move to third where he scored on a base hit by Matt Carpenter.

BYU battled and eventually knotted the game in the bottom of the sixth. Kasey Ko worked a lead-off walk and gave way to pinch runner Austin Carter, who moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kent Walton. Blake Crosby delivered with a single to the gap in right center to tie the game at two.

Pack made a Cougar error pay in the top of the eighth inning with his fourth home run of the season. Austin Adams reached base to lead off the inning on a throwing error by BYU shortstop Marcos Villezcas. Jerid Buttell came off the bench and dropped down a sacrifice bunt moving Adams into scoring position. Pack came throw with line drive home run to right center to give TCU the 4-2 lead.

The Cougars put a four spot on the board in the bottom of the eighth, erasing the deficit and taking a two run lead. With two on and nobody out, Blake Crosby drove in the Cougars third run of the game and Casey Nelson tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Villezcas gave the Cougars the lead with an infield single and a wild pitch from Donald Furrow allowed the sixth BYU run to cross the plate.

A ninth inning rally by the Frogs fell short as Brandon Christiansen worked around a lead-off walk and error to earn the save.

Sam Demel falls to 5-3 with the loss as he went seven innings. He surrendered five runs on 10 hits, struck out five and walked four.

The Frogs fall to 24-17 on the season and 11-2 in MWC play. The Frogs will reach the midpoint in their seven game road trip when they travel to Arlington on Tuesday for a meeting against UT-Arlington. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
