MANHATTAN, Kan. - A three-run sixth inning for Kansas State broke open a 1-0 game and the Wildcats handed TCU a 6-1 loss in the series opener Friday night.

Preston Morrison (6-2) allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. Trevor Seidenberger struck out two and gave up an infield single in his one inning on the mound. Stefan Crichton was touched for two runs on four hits in 1 1/3 inning.

The Horned Frogs had early chances to get on the board with runners on in both the first and second inning, but a pair of double play balls killed the TCU rallies.

In the third, K-State got a lead-off single by RJ Santigate, igniting its offense. A one-out walk to Kyle Speer put the Wildcats first runner in scoring position. Ross Kivett delivered with a bouncer through the left side to drive in the first run of the game.

The Frogs looked poised to tie the game or take the lead in the top of the fourth. Boomer White and Paul Hendrix singled to start the inning. Both runners advanced 90 feet on a Jantzen Witte sacrifice bunt. K-State starter Levi MaVorhis worked out of trouble, getting a foul out and a ground ball to preserve the 1-0 lead.

TCU had another golden opportunity to get the game knotted, but the Wildcats once again pitched out of the jam. For the fourth time in six innings the Frogs got the lead-off batter on, this time in the form of a Hendrix base hit. Derek Odell followed with a single up the middle. Aggressive base running on a ball in the dirt with one out proved costly as the Wildcats recorded the out on the bases and left the tying run stranded on third.

The Wildcats took the momentum from the previous inning and translated it into three runs and a 4-0 lead. A one-out single by Tanner Witt broke up a string of nine straight retired by Morrison. With two on, Jared King lined a double to the left center gap to clear the bases for a 3-0 lead. With two outs, the Frogs looked to be out of the inning, but a throwing error allowed the fourth run of the game to score.

A Cody Jones triple to lead off the eighth inning helped the Frogs pick up its lone run of the ballgame. After a walk to Boomer Whiter, Hendrix hit a towering fly ball to right for a sacrifice fly, pulling the Frogs within three, 4-1.

Kansas State answered with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to open up a 6-1 lead. King drove in his third run of the game and scored on TCU's second error of the contest.

TCU falls to 19-22 overall and 7-9 in conference play. Game two of the series is set for 4 p.m. at Tointon Family Stadium. Brandon Finnegan will get the start for the Horned Frogs.
