SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Chad Huffman celebrated his birthday in style, as he homered twice and drove in four runs to lead the Frogs to a 7-5 victory in 10 innings over San Diego State Saturday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. His second home run was the game-winner in the top of the 10th. Sam Demel pitched a perfect bottom of the 10th to preserve the win and earn his fourth save of the season.

For the second straight game, the Aztecs jumped out to an early lead. TCU starter Brad Furnish had retired the first five batters he faced in the game before Tim O'Brien jumped on the first pitch he saw for his 10th home run of the season, giving San Diego State the 1-0 lead.

The Aztecs extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning, sending eight men to the plate and scoring twice. Lance Zawadski led off the inning with his second home run of the season. Following the first out of the inning, three straight Aztec batters reached base. Nick Romero singled and scored on a base hit by Brock Ungricht.

After being held to just one hit through the first four innings, the Horned Frog bats came alive in the fifth inning. Austin Adams opened the inning with a single to left center. Keith Conlon, who returned to the lineup after missing four games with a strained shoulder, came through with a huge blast over the left field fence to pull the Frogs within one, 3-2.

Corey Steglich kept the hit parade going with a single through the left side. With one out, Steglich swiped second base and moved to third on a long fly ball off the bat of Bryan Kervin. Steven Trout ripped an infield single to second, driving in Steglich with the tying run. Huffman put the Frogs on top with his first home run of the game, a long drive over the left field fence. Furnish twirled a scoreless bottom of the fifth to keep it a 5-3 Frog lead.

Trouble struck in the seventh as San Diego State battled back to tie the game at five. Romero reached on a one-out single and moved to second on a walk to Paul Smyth, ending Furnish's afternoon. Donald Furrow came on and retired the first man he faced but surrendered a long double to Curt Mendoza that knotted the game. Furrow stranded him at second, striking out O'Brien to end the inning.

Furrow worked out of a jam in the eighth inning to keep the game tied and San Diego State closer, Adam Simon, stranded Conlon at second in the top of the ninth to send the game to extra innings.

Kervin led off the 10th with a base knock and moved to second on a Trout sacrifice. With a base open, the Aztecs elected to pitch to Huffman and he made it hurt, driving the Simon pitch over the 410 sign in center field to give TCU a 7-5 led that they held on to.

Furnish went 6.1 innings in the no-decision. He surrendered five runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out 10. Furrow twirled 2.2 innings to move to 2-0 on the season. He struck out three and walked one.

The Frogs improve to 26-18 on the season and 12-3 in conference play. They will go for the series win on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. (CST).
