TCU Dominates In 8-2 Win Over Texas

FORT WORTH -- Eight strong innings on the mound from Brian Howard and a seven-run third inning helped TCU take a 2-0 series lead with an 8-2 victory over Texas Saturday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.
Howard (7-3) was outstanding on the mound for the Horned Frogs on Saturday, allowing just one hit over eight innings of work. Only once while he was on the mound did the Longhorns send more than four batters to the plate. Howard set the side down in order four times in the game.
The offense gave him plenty to work with, scoring eight times in the first three innings. Evan Skoug's 12th home run of the year got the scoring started in the second.
TCU sent 12 men to the plate in the third, scoring seven times to open up an 8-0 lead. Ryan Merrill started the inning with a base it and stole second. With two on, Austen Wade lined a single up the middle to make it 2-0. Connor Wanhanen doubled the lead with a two-run single to center.
Skoug collected his second RBI of the game with a ground out. Cam Warner followed with an RBI-single. Merrill's second hit of the inning was a 2-run double that capped the scoring.
Texas tallied its only two runs in the ninth. A lead-off double turned into the Longhorns first run of the game. A two-out error allowed the second to score. Cal Coughlin came in and recorded the final out of the game.

With the victory, TCU improves to 34-11 overall and 14-6 in Big 12 play. The Horned Frogs will go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Mitchell Traver will get the start for TCU. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.
