Cincinnati, Ohio - The TCU Horned Frogs dropped a 4-3 decision to the Cincinnati Bearcats Saturday afternoon at UC Baseball Field. The Bearcats capitalized on three TCU errors, scoring two unearned runs in the decisive sixth inning. The Frogs offense stalled as they stranded 11 runners on base, four of the in scoring position. Shelby Ford and Austin Adams led the Frogs offensively with two hits apiece.

The Frogs got on the board early, picking up a run on two hits in the first inning. Ford got the offense started with a one-out double to left field. After a fly out, Keith Conlon drew a two-out walk. Matt McGuirk came through with the clutch hit, singling up the middle to give TCU the 1-0 lead.

The Bearcats battled in the bottom of the second inning, knotting the game at one. Pat LeMasters stroked a one-out single to start the rally and eventually scored on catcher Jim Olds first hit of the contest.

TCU battled back, regaining the lead in the third inning, scoring two runs on two hits. Chad Huffman was hit by the pitch with one and moved to second on a Conlon base hit. After a strikeout, J.J. Estrada came up and drilled a double down the left field line, clearing the bases and giving the Frogs the 3-1 advantage.

The Bearcats continued to get batters on and cut the lead to one in the third inning. Mark Haske drew a lead-off walk and the next two batters singled to load the bases. Jon DeLuca hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2 and Furnish got a strikeout and a fly out to end the inning without any further damage.

Furnish worked out of another bases loaded jam in the fourth inning, leaving the loaded as he caught a line drive off the bat of Brian Szarmach. Through four innings, the Bearcats had stranded nine runners on base and trailed 3-2.



The Bearcats took their first lead of the series in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two unearned runs on two hits and an error. Olds singled to start the inning and was safe at second on a bad throw by Furnish. Sam Demel came on and gave up a base hit to load the bases. Haske hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at three and Ryan Nelson drove in the go-ahead run with a RBI-groundout.

The Frogs looked poised to tie the game in the top of the seventh as Musslewhite singled to open the inning. The hit extended his hit-streak to 12 games. Ford delivered his second double of the game, a line drive over the first baseman's head, giving the Frogs two runners in scoring position. Cincinnati closer, Josh Kay, bore down and got Huffman to hit a shallow fly ball and struck out Conlon and Estrada to strand the runners. Kay pitched the final two innings, allowing just two hits to record his seventh save of the season.

Furnish dropped to 5-4 on the season as he went five-plus innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits. He struck out five and walked three. Sam Demel pitched three innings of scoreless relief and struck out three.

The Frogs (33-14, 16-7) will try for the series win on Sunday afternoon. Tim McGough will take the mound for the Frogs at Noon (CDT).
