FORT WORTH, Texas (May 13, 2006) - The TCU Horned Frogs got great performances from their seniors on Senior Night at Lupton Stadium in a 6-3 win over UT-Pan American on Saturday night. Jerid Buttell played spectacular defense in left field and finished with a double. Ryan Pack picked up his first career triple and Shawn Ferguson twirled two perfect innings to earn the save. Chad Huffman provided the offensive spark with four RBIs on a double and his 12th home run of the season.
Bryan Kervin got the offense rolling in the bottom of the first inning with a lead-off single and moved to second on a Steven Trout sacrifice. An error kept the inning alive and Matt Carpenter came through with a two-out single to bring home Kervin, giving TCU the 1-0 lead.
A three-run second inning put the Frogs in the driver's seat, increasing their lead to 4-0. Corey Steglich extended his hit streak to seven games with a lead-off single. UTPA starter Dane Mason retired the next two batters before Kervin worked a walk to put two runners on. Trout took a pitch off the arm, loading the base for Huffman, who cleared the bases with a double to left field.
The Broncs got the three runs back on a three-run home run off the bat of Osiel Flores. Jason Buhagir drew a one-out walk and T.J. Gilmer singled in front of Flores. TCU starter Brad Furnish settled in and struck out Joshua Talley. With a runner on first, Patrick Brooks singled down the left field line and the runner trying to move to third was gunned down on a laser by Buttell to Carpenter at third base ended the inning.
Both Mason and Furnish settled in, throwing up zeroes, keeping it a one-run game. The Broncs threatened to knot game in the sixth inning. Back-to-back singles with one out in the inning were left stranded as Dillon Farish came on to retire the final two batters of the inning.
After four scoreless innings, Chad Huffman broke through with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the seventh, extending the Frogs lead to two, 5-3. Pack tripled to open the eighth and scored the sixth run of the ball game on a Kervin sacrifice fly.
