TCU Blanks Oral Roberts in NCAA Regional
June 3, 2016
FORT WORTH -- The TCU baseball team got a great pitching performance, pushed through six runs late, and came away with a 7-0 win over Oral Roberts in its opening game of the NCAA Fort Worth Regional at Lupton Stadium on Friday night.
For the second straight season, Mitchell Traver made a scoreless start in a regional opener, this time tossing 5.0 innings and allowing just two hits. Brian Trieglaff, Preston Guillory and Dalton Brown combined to pitch the final 4.0 innings and preserve the shutout.
The Golden Eagles hurler walked eight in his 5.0 innings of work, but for the most part worked around the free passes. Howe (6-5) and ORU kept the Horned Frogs off the board for four straight innings before the Big 12 Tournament Champions exploded in the sixth.
Landestoy would score on an RBI single from Wade before Cam Warner's fourth home run of the season scored Wade and gave TCU a 5-0 lead.
The Frogs added two more runs in the seventh inning when Dane Steinhagen scored from second base after a throwing error on the ORU third baseman on a ground ball from Merrill. Merrill advanced all the way to third on the error and scored on a sacrifice fly from Landestoy to make the score 7-0.
