June 4, 2017
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Senior Austin Listi blasted two of DBU's five home runs as the Patriots powered past Central Connecticut State, 6-5, Sunday at Lupton Stadium.
DBU improved to 42-20 on the season and will continue play in the NCAA Fort Worth Regional Sunday at 8 p.m. against the loser of the TCU-Virginia game. CCSU fell to 36-22 overall and was eliminated from postseason play.
Listi, a First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection, went deep in the third and fifth innings, his 21st and 22nd home runs of the season.
The Patriots' Matt Duce was the first to score on Blue Devils starter Mike Appel (4-4). The junior hit his eighth home run of the season in the second inning. Two batters later, Camden Duzenack hit a one-out home run to left field that drove in Tim Millard and gave DBU a 3-1 lead.
With a 5-4 lead in the eighth inning, DBU got a much-needed run off the bat of Devlin Granberg. The junior hit his sixth home run of the season over the centerfield wall. The run proved to be necessary as CCSU scored one in the ninth inning when Ryan Costello scored off a single from Mitch Guilmette. Costello went 3-for-3 and scored three runs to lead the Patriots.
Seth Elledge pitched the final 2.2 innings and with the tying run on second, struck out Buddy Dewaine to end the game. Elledge struck out four to earn his 13th save of the season.
Patriots' starting pitcher MD Johnson (6-2) allowed four runs and struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings.
