TCU's Rally Falls Short As Season Ends

OMAHA, Neb. -- Coastal Carolina scored six of its seven runs with two outs and never looked back in a 7-5 win over TCU Saturday night at TD Ameritrade Park. 2016 marks the third straight season the Horned Frogs season comes to an end at the College World Series.
Coastal Carolina opened up the scoring with a solo home run from Tyler Chadwick in the second. A two-run triple in the third extended the Chanticleers' lead to 3-0 in the third.
TCU cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth, picking up a run on three hits. Austen Wade opened the inning with a base hit. With one out, Evan Skoug singled to right to give the Frogs a pair of base runners. Elliott Barzilli came through with a two-out hit to right center to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
Coastal broke the game open with four two-out runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brian Trieglaff looked poised to wiggle off the hook after a strikeout for the second out, but three straight hits followed. The big blow was a two-run double from Connor Owings.
The Frogs scratched across another run in the sixth to pull within five, 7-2. Cam Warner and Evan Skoug reached on back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. Luken Baker grounded out to second base to drive in Warner with the Frogs' second run of the game.
TCU crept closer in the seventh, picking up a pair of runs on two hits. Josh Watson led off the inning with a base hit and moved to third on a double by Dane Steinhagen. Ryan Merrill hit a sacrifice fly and Michael Landestoy grounded out to make it a 7-4 game.
The Frogs battled to the end, bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth. Steinhagen doubled with one out and scored on a Ryan Merrill base hit to make it a 7-5 game. Coastal Carolina turned its third double play of the game to lock up the victory.
Jared Janczak (7-4) took the loss after giving up three runs on five hits. Ryan Burnett pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Durbin Feltman turned in three scoreless frames with five strikeouts.

49 -- TCU's season comes to a close with 49 victories, the third-most by a Horned Frog squad in program history.
