Jan. 31, 2008
FORT WORTH, Texas - The 2008 TCU baseball season will get underway Friday afternoon as the squad will hit the practice field for the first time this spring under the guidance of Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle. The Frogs will practice Friday through Sunday before taking a day off on Monday.
The two-time defending Mountain West Conference Champions, return 19 players from 2007 and welcomes 17 newcomers to the field. The Frogs made their fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament a year ago after sweeping both the MWC regular season and tournament crowns.
The Frogs will put a young team on the field this season, but have some veteran leadership in seniors Clint Arnold, Bryan Kervin and Dillon Farish. Despite losing the entire starting rotation and Nos. 2-5 in the batting order, the Horned Frogs will get a boost with the healthy return of infielder, Matt Carpenter and right-handed pitcher, Seth Garrison.
The Frogs will open spring practice Friday afternoon beginning at 2:15. A unique day follows on Saturday as the Frogs welcome back some very distinguished alumni members for a day of fun at the ballpark which will feature a home run derby, an alumni vs. alumni contest and an intrasquad game. Throughout the season, the Frogs will practice Tuesdays thru Fridays from 2:00-5:00 and have Monday's off. All practices are open to the public. Media wishing to conduct interviews with players and coaches may do so by contacting Brandie Davidson at 817-257-7479.
TCU opens the season on Friday, Feb. 22 with a three-game series against 2007 College World Series participant Cal State Fullerton. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Lupton Stadium.
