Mosiello Named To USA Baseball 18U Staff
Feb. 22, 2017
FORT WORTH – TCU associate head coach Bill Mosiello has been named an assistant coach for the USA Baseball 18U team. The squad will be vying for its fourth-straight WBSC World Cup title in 2017.
“I want to thank USA Baseball for this great opportunity to serve with this outstanding staff,” said associate head coach Bill Mosiello. “It has always been a dream of mine to coach on a Team USA staff. Besides winning a national championship, I can’t imagine anything in baseball being more rewarding than coaching the most talented players in the country wearing USA across my chest.”
Since his arrival on campus, Mosiello has helped guide the team to three straight appearances in the College World Series. The last trio of seasons have seen a dramatic increase in their offensive numbers. Under Mosiello's guidance, TCU has turned into one of the most prolific offensive teams in the nation. The Horned Frogs have led the Big 12 in batting average each of the last two seasons. Additionally, TCU has become one of the top base-running teams, ranking seventh nationally with 308 stolen bases over the last three campaigns.
TCU has been well-represented on both the staff and player side since Jim Schlossnagle’s arrival on campus. Jake Arrieta was the first Horned Frog to earn a spot on the National Team roster, doing so in 2006, the same year Schlossnagle served as an assistant coach. In 2010 Kyle Winkler pitched for Team USA. TCU had a pair of representatives in 2011 as Josh Elander and Andrew Mitchell participated on the squad. The Frogs had three player representatives in 2013 as Riley Ferrell, Brandon Finnegan and Preston Morrison were on the squad that was managed by Schlossnagle. Evan Skoug was the latest TCU representative, earning on spot on the 2016 Collegiate National Team.
Additionally, head athletic trainer Danny Wheat has served six tours with USA Baseball, while assistant director of communications Brandie Davidson has served three tours with the organization.
The 18U National Team will compete in the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 World Cup in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, from September 1–10. Team USA is the three-time defending World Cup champion and will look to become the second country to win four-straight gold medals in the tournament.
The 2017 18U National Team schedule will begin at the Tournament of Stars at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, from June 27-July 1. The coaching staff will then invite 34 players to join the six previously invited athletes from the 2016 17U NTDP and National Team Identification Series (NTIS) to trials in Minneapolis, Minnesota from August 19-24. The 18U National Team will participate in exhibition games from August 26-29, before traveling to Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada for the WBSC U-18 World Cup on September 1-10.
