FORT WORTH – The TCU Athletics Department has named baseball’s Kyle Winkler and swimmer Sabine Rasch as its Athletes of the Week for the efforts during the past week, the department announced Tuesday.
In last Friday’s 4-1 win over 12th-ranked Cal State Fullerton, Winkler tossed 7 1/3 innings six-hit ball, allowing just one run and zero earned runs. The Sugar Land, Texas, native struck out two and walked one while improving to 2-0 on the year.
Winkler found the strike zone 73 times on 96 pitches before turning it over to closer Erik Miller, who picked up the save. Winkler retired eight of the first nine batters he faced.
Rasch became the second woman in TCU history to claim an individual Mountain West Conference title when she won the 100-freestyle gold medal last Saturday at the MWC Swimming & Diving Championships.
She broke her own TCU record with a 49.25, a time that was good for an NCAA “B” cut. Also at the MWC Championships, Rasch lowered her own school records in the 50-freestyle and 100-butterfly. She earned all-MWC honors in the 100-free and 100-fly.
