Baker Headlines TCU's All-Big 12 Honorees

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Luken Baker, who was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, headlines TCU's All-Big 12 selections as voted upon by league coaches. In all, TCU had 10 players honored.

Joining Baker as a first-team all-conference performer was Elliott Barzilli. Evan Skoug, Cam Warner, Dane Steinhagen and Dalton Horton were tabbed second-team all-conference performers, while Durbin Feltman, Jared Janczak, Austen Wade and Josh Watson earned honorable mention accolades. TCU led the league with four selections on the All-Freshman Team in Baker, Feltman, Horton and Watson.

Baker is the second-straight Big 12 Freshman of the Year for the Frogs after Connor Wanhanen claimed the award in 2015. He is the fifth freshman to earn league Freshman of the Year honors under the tutelage of head coach Jim Schlossnagle. Along with Wanhanen, Chad Huffman (2004, C-USA), Matt Purke (2010, MWC) and Preston Morrison (2012, MWC) have earned the honor.

The Spring, Texas, native is a unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection as a designated hitter and utility player while also earning unanimous honors on the All-Freshman Team. He is the first player in league history to earn first-team honors at multiple positions. Appearing in all 52 games for TCU, he finished the regular season with the 10th-best batting average in the league (.340), while also ranking in the top 10 in walks, RBI and on-base percentage. In conference-only contests, he hit .371. In 10 games started on the mound, he posted a 1.70 ERA and 3-1 record, fanning 41 in 47.2 innings.

Also a unanimous first-team selection, Barzilli has put together a career year. His .372 batting average is tops on the squad and ranks fourth in the Big 12. Barzilli leads the team with 71 hits, including 14 doubles, three triples and seven home runs.

Horton, one of five freshmen to earn a spot on the all-conference teams and the all-freshman squad, leads the team with an 8-0 record in 12 appearances on the mound. He boasts a 2.35 ERA in 57 1/3 innings pitch. TCU is 10-1 in games he starts this season.

Skoug, a 2015 honorable mention performer, is hitting .301 this season. He ranks fourth in the Big 12 with 18 doubles and is tied for second on the squad with seven home runs. In 50 games played, the sophomore has driven in 40 runs.

Steinhagen has put together a career-year at the plate. He ranks third on the team with a .312 average, while leading the way with 46 RBIs. Steinhagen has 16 doubles and seven home runs on the year.

In his first season on campus, Warner has been a staple on the infield playing in 51 games and starting 50 at second base. A .298 hitter, Warner has 12 doubles, one triple and three home runs. He ranks sixth on the team with 33 RBIs.

Feltman leads TCU with six saves. He has appeared in a team-high 22 games this season and is 2-0 with a 2.28 ERA. The freshman has fanned 35 in 23 2/3 innings pitched.

Janczak has made 21 appearances this season and boasts a 6-3 record. The redshirt-freshman has a 2.28 ERA in 55 1/3 innings pitched. His 54 strikeouts rank second on the team.

Wade has appeared in 49 games and started 43 this season. He is hitting .298 on the season with 10 doubles, one home run and 19 RBIs. The sophomore is one of three Frogs with at least 10 stolen bases. His 40 walks on the year are tops in the Big 12.

Watson paces TCU and ranks tied for third in the Big 12 with 10 home runs. He has started all 52 games in left field and is hitting .286 on the year. In addition to his home runs, Watson has nine doubles and a team-leading four triples to go along with 39 RBIs. His 11 stolen bases are also tops on the team.

TCU will be the three seed in the upcoming Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships. The tournament is set to get underway Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. TCU's first game will be against the sixth-seeded Baylor Bears Wednesday at 4 p.m. The entire tournament leading up to Sunday's championship game will be televised on FCS.
