FORT WORTH, Texas - Four Horned Frogs were selected on day two of the MLB First-Year Player Draft. Matt Purke was the first Frog to be selected, going to the Washington Nationals in the third round. Also selected were Taylor Featherston (5th round, Colorado), Kyle Winkler (10th round, Arizona) and Jason Coats (12th round, Baltimore).

The 2010 consensus National Freshman of the Year, Purke has put together a solid career on the mound at TCU. In 31 appearances, Purke has started 29 games and posted an impressive 21-1 record. That mark includes a nation-leading 16-0 record as a freshman.

In 169 career innings pitched, he has fanned 203 batters, walked 54 and posted an ERA of 2.61. The Horned Frogs were 26-5 in games he pitched over the last two seasons.

The Colorado Rockies tabbed Featherston in the fifth round with the 168th overall pick. In just three years on campus, Featherston has already climbed into the top five in a pair of offensive categories. His 166 career runs scored ranks fifth all-time, while his 13 career triples is tied for third all-time with Mike Losa.

A career .331 hitter, Featherston has played in 180 games and amassed 234 hits. He tallied 42 doubles and 16 home runs while driving in 122. Featherston posted 71 multi-hit games and 29 multiple RBI contests.

Since his arrival on campus three years ago, Winkler has been a staple on the mound. He has made 50 appearances and started 46 games (the fourth-most starts in school history). The junior has a career record of 27-6. The 27 victories are tied for the third most with Scott Atchison.

In 281 innings pitched, Winkler fanned 239 batters and posted a 2.95 ERA. The Horned Frogs were 32-14 in his 46 starts and 35-15 in his 50 appearances on the mound. He is a two-time all-conference member as well as being selected as a third-team All-American this season.

Coats has been a staple in left field since coming to campus three years ago. He has played in 186 games and made 182 starts. His 157 career RBIs rank fifth all-time, while his 56 career doubles are third all-time.

He is a .335 hitter that has tallied 74 multi-hit games and 43 multiple RBI contests. The junior has tallied 10 triples and 27 home runs as part of 240 career hits.

Jim Schlossnagle has seen 31 players drafted by 18 different organizations in his eight seasons as the head coach at TCU.
