FORT WORTH, Texas -- Former TCU All-America catcher Bryan Holaday made his major-league debut Wednesday night with the Detroit Tigers.

Holaday was in the starting lineup and had a base hit and scored a run in the Tigers' 9-6 home loss to the Cleveland Indiana. Holaday's first career hit was a single in the fifth inning.

Holaday was the 2010 recipient of the Johnny Bench Award, presented to the nation's top catcher. Holaday started all 68 games as a senior and batted .355 with 17 home runs and 53 RBIs. He totaled a school-record 99 hits, including 24 doubles. Holaday threw out 46 percent of opposing base stealers as TCU opponents recorded just 30 steals on the season.

Holaday led TCU to the 2010 College World Series and was named to the CWS All-Tournament team after batting .409 with four home runs in Omaha.
