Carpenter Makes NL All-Star Team

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Former TCU standout Matt Carpenter will represent the St. Louis Cardinals in the July 16 Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York.

Carpenter is the first Horned Frog selected to the All-Star Game since pitcher Jeff Zimmerman for the Texas Rangers in 1999. The last TCU position player in the All-Star Game was catcher Jeff Newman for the Oakland A's in 1979.

The Cardinals' leadoff hitter and second baseman, Carpenter is batting .319 with eight home runs and 37 RBIs. He is tied for the National League lead in runs scored (65), is second in hits (106), tied for third in doubles (26), fifth in on-base percentage (.391), sixth in batting and tied for eighth in triples (four) and OPS (.882).

Carpenter is the only player in the National League to rank in the top six in batting, hits, doubles, runs scored and on-base percentage.
