FLUSHING, N.Y. -- TCU's Matt Carpenter represented the St. Louis Cardinals in Tuesday night's Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

Carpenter, who finished second in voting to be a starter, entered the game as a defensive replacement in the top of the sixth inning.

Carpenter tops the National League in runs scored (72) and is tied for the lead with 28 doubles. The 72 runs are second in the majors, behind only Miguel Cabrera (73). Carpenter is third in the National League in hits (115) and sixth in batting average (.321) and on-base percentage (.394).

A four-year letterman (2005-06, 2008-09) and three-time all-conference selection at TCU, Carpenter is the lone player in the National League to rank in the top six in batting average, hits, runs scored, doubles and on-base percentage.
