FORT WORTH - The TCU baseball team announced the signing of six high school athletes to National Letters of Intent. The group will be freshmen in the fall of 2013.

Four of the six signees hail from the Metroplex. The group includes Tyler Alexander (Southlake Carroll High School), Robby Medel (Bowie High School), Brandon Gilson (Prosper High School), Billy McKinney (Plano West High School). Also signing NLIs were Alex Mata and Connor Beck, both of whom attend Midland High School.

Tyler Alexander, the son of Jeff and Maryann, is a pitcher for Larry Hughes at Southlake Carroll. He is also a member of the DBAT team that is coached by Sam Carpenter. Alexander was a key contributor to the DBAT squad that competed in the Connie Mack World Series.

A pitcher at Bowie High School under the direction of Bill Jenkins, Robby Medel is the son of Anna and Rob. He is also a member of Dave Acton's Arlington A's club and competed in the Texas Scouts Association Game that was play at Minute Maid Park.

Brandon Gilson is a pitcher that plays for Rick Carpenter at Prosper High School. He is the third player coached by Carpenter, who is also the father of former Horned Frog Matt Carpenter, to make his way to TCU in Jim Schlossnagle's tenure. The son of Jeff and Charity, Gilson also plays for the Frozen Ropes Summer Program coached by Danny Florence and recently competed in Jupiter, Fla. for the Texas Scout Team.

An outfielder for Kevin Clark's Plano West squad, Billy McKinney also plays in the DBAT league for coach Kermit Dow. The son of Bill and Cathy, McKinney competed in the Underarmour All-American game.

Midland High School head coach Barry Russell sent a pair of athletes to TCU in infielder/pitcher Alex Mata and outfielder Connor Beck. The duo also plays for Ryan Brewer at the Albuquerque Baseball Academy. Mata, the son of Alex and Pat, most recently was a member of the Texas team in the Battle of the Borders. Beck, the son of Lisa and Brent, is a standout quarterback for the Midland High School football team.

All six will be freshmen next fall and will see their first action on the field in 2014.
