Dec. 22, 2012
FORT WORTH - A pair of TCU baseball pitchers were tabbed third-team preseason All-Americans by Louisville Slugger. Preston Morrison was honored for the second time in the preseason, while Andrew Mitchell was recognized for the first time.
Morrison, tabbed a third-team preseason All-American by the NCBWA earlier this month, had a dominating freshman campaign en route to being named a Louisville Slugger third-team All-American. Additionally, he was selected to numerous Freshman All-American teams. He became the first athlete in Mountain West history to earn Pitcher and Freshman of the Year honors.
Morrison made 11 starts as part of 23 appearances on the mound and tied for the team lead with a 9-2 record. He led the team with 112 2/3 innings pitched and struck out 72 while walking just 12.
Entering his junior campaign, Mitchell has put together an impressive career on the mound at TCU. A first-team all-Mountain West performer in 2012, Mitchell led the team with 101 strikeouts in just 77 innings pitched. He went 5-3 in 17 appearances with a 3.74 ERA.
In his career, Mitchell boasts an 11-4 record to go along with a 3.29 ERA in 39 appearances. He has stuck out 174 batters in 153 innings pitched.
The 15th-ranked Horned Frogs open the 2013 campaign on the road at No. 25 Ole Miss on Feb. 15.
