Jones is an excellent defender who has worked hard to improve his jump shot... will compete for more playing time this season as a reserve... a good athlete who brings hustle and enthusiasm to the hardwood every day... one of the top players in the Fort Worth area during his high school career.



Jones saw action in six games, playing a total of seven minutes... played a season-high two minutes against Arkansas-Pine Bluff... also grabbed a rebound in that same contest... saw action in two WAC games.


Jones saw limited action in seven games for the Horned Frogs... made his collegiate debut vs. Northwestern State on Nov. 30 and dished out his first assist... played a season-high seven minutes vs. Butler on December 27... Hit 1-of-2 free throws vs. Grambling State on Dec. 30 for his first collegiate point... also grabbed his first career rebound in that contest... handed out three assists in just three minutes vs. North Texas on Jan. 3... connected for his lone field goal vs. Tulsa on January 6... hauled in a pair of rebounds in just one minute of action vs. Rice on March 3.


Fulfilled a key role in practices and intrasquad scrimmages after making the team via walk-on tryouts in the preseason... did not see any game action and sat out the season as a redshirt... one of two walk-on candidates who helped the squad during the season.

High School

Jones was a three-year starter at Brewer High School, just a short drive from the TCU campus... earned first-team all-district 8-4A honors three consecutive seasons... the 1998 District 8-4A Defensive Player of the Year... an outstanding student, he earned academic all-state honors... Jones also competed and earned varsity letters in baseball and cross country... was All-District 8-4A in baseball and cross country during his senior year... earned Brewer's Basketball 3-D Award for outstanding defense as a sophomore... was the cross country team's Most Valuable Performer as a junior... also earned varsity monograms in golf (twice)... averaged 13 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.9 steals, 5.5 assists and blocked seven shots during his senior season... coached in basketball at Brewer by Kenny Williams.


James Richard Jones was born on November 10, 1979... the son of Richard and Cindy Jones... a kinesiology major at TCU.
