TCU Routs Knox, 107-63
Aug. 15, 2017
WANTIRNA SOUTH, Victoria, Australia -- Freshman guard RJ Nembhard led five Horned Frogs in double-figures as the TCU men's basketball team never trailed in a 107-63 rout of the Knox Raiders Tuesday at State Basketball Centre outside Melbourne.
"We passed a little bit better, but still our defense isn't where it needs to be," said head coach Jamie Dixon. "We don't seem to be carrying that intensity, but this is a unique situation. We got the experience we needed to get out of this, the experience we wanted."
The trip was invaluable for newcomers like Nembhard, who finished with a game-high 20 points. The Keller, Texas native was 9-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range and added four assists.
Senior transfer from TCU, Ahmed Hamdy, finished with a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Junior forward JD Miller also had a double-double with 16 points, on 7-of-10 shooting, and 10 rebounds.
Junior guard Shawn Olden, a transfer from New Mexico Junior College, was 5-of-7 from 3-point range and finished with 17 points. As a team, TCU was 12-of-25 from three and shot 53.8 percent from the field.
Rounding out the double-figure scoring was senior Vladimir Brodziansky, who had 13 points to go with five rebounds in just 14 minutes of action.
The Frogs finished 5-0 on their 10-day foreign tour of Australia. They leave with their health, more experience and a lot of photos.
"We got out of here with everyone healthy and with five wins," said Dixon. "Everyone got some minutes and had a great experience all the way around. The cities of Sydney and Melbourne were great to us. We know what we need to work on and we've got plenty of work to do."
TCU is scheduled to land in Texas at around 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
