TCU 81, UAFS 74
Fort Worth, Texas
Freshman Center Karviar Shepherd
On the general game-plan going into tonight:
"We knew they were going to run and hit a couple of three's, so we played off our defense tonight and got it done. It was a great game against a great team. We have players who can come off the bench and play. We all come out and play hard, which is going to help us throughout the season."
Senior Guard Jarvis Ray
On returning to the DMC:
"It feels good. I love playing with these guys and my energy comes off of them."
TCU Head Coach Trent Johnson
"I knew this was a good basketball team we were going to be playing tonight. I was real familiar with Coach Newman. I can't tell you enough about the impact he's had on me throughout the years from when he was an assistant at Nevada. I knew his team was going to be well-prepared, so we had to make some adjustments. Arkansas-Fort Smith is a good basketball team and about as good as anyone we've played. They are very similar to the teams we played in Canada. I thought the guys did a good job. There are a lot of things you can pick at and a lot of adjustments for all of us."
On how the players dealt with the close game:
"I liked how the guys responded. That's a good basketball team. They can shoot the ball. Our group can keep their poise and in Canada they had nothing but close games. I thought they did a good job at keeping their poise throughout tonight. Kyan Anderson had four fouls and was as clutch as anybody."
On what can be expected of the team moving forward:
"It's early. I can't tell you they are all great right now. Hudson Price and Brandon Parrish are a little bit behind defensively in terms of the system. That's to be expected. Karviar Shepherd and Michael Williams are doing a good job defensively, but all-in-all it's their first time under the lights at home. I look at where they're at and where some of my freshmen have been over the years, they are going to be fine. "
