FORT WORTH, Texas - Senior Kyan Anderson scored a game-high 31 points Thursday night to lead TCU to a 69-61 exhibition victory over Tarleton State at Wilkenson-Greines.

Anderson, who posted his second career 30-point game, was clutch down the stretch, scoring seven-straight after the Texans had pulled within two. In the end, the Fort Worth native went 8-of-11 from the field, including 13-for-13 from the charity stripe to lead all scorers. Sophomore Chris Washburn was the only other Frog in double-figures, scoring 11 points on 5-of-7 from the floor.

TSU, who is ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division II, was carried by TaShawn Mabry's 23-point outing Thursday. The senior also pulled down a game-high 10 boards. Mo Lee followed with 14 points on 3-of-8 from the field.

Tarleton made it a 40-29 score on the opening possession, but Karviar Shepherd found the bottom of the net three minutes into the second stanza of action to make it a 44-29 ballgame before TSU went on a mini 5-0 run to pull within 10 at the 16:16 mark. Anderson put a halt to the run for a moment, drilling a jumper, but the Texans continued to battle with 14:11 showing in the second half by going on an 11-1 run.

With the scoreboard reading 47-45 in favor of the Frogs, Washburn connected on an old-fashion three-point play to move TCU's lead to five. The Purple and White then stepped up defensively causing a travel to stymie the Texan attack before the sophomore tipped the rock in at the midway point of the second period to make it 52-45.

The two teams would go back and forth the next couple of trips as the Purple and White hung to a 54-50 lead until Anderson went coast-to-coast to make it 56-50 with 5:54 showing on the scoreboard.

TSU continued to battle pulling within two at 56-54 on a mini 4-0 run, but Anderson went back to work to make it a 63-54 ballgame with a little over two minutes remaining in the contest, knocking down a triple and a jumper. In all, the returning all-conference honoree scored seven-straight to appear to put the game away for the Frogs in the closing minute, but TSU would not go quietly, pulling within six late.

The two teams battled on both ends of the court to begin the contest until Washburn found the bottom of the net to ignite a 6-0 run. TCU put the clamps down on the Texans during the opening stages, as Tarleton didn't score from the field until the 15:19 mark of the first half. The Frogs forced Tarleton State into a 1-for-7 showing from the field with several turnovers during the stretch.

By the time Anderson found Brandon Parrish for a layup, TCU was off and running, now up 11-2 midway through. Anderson went back to work a little bit later, showing some fancy footwork with the rock in his hands to make it 14-2 on a contested layup.

The Frogs had jumped on top 21-6 with 11:24 showing on the clock when Trey Zeigler dished it off to Shepherd in the paint who promptly found the bottom of the net.  TSU was able to close within 10 at 21-11 down the stretch of the opening frame of play, but Anderson would have nothing of it, scoring five-straight to make it 26-11 with 5:44 showing on the scoreboard.

TCU continued its offensive attack the next couple of plays as Washburn rattled the rim with a thunderous dunk off a dish, while Parrish scored on a run out to make it 30-11. TSU would cut the lead, but the Purple and White took a 40-26 lead into the break Thursday.

The Horned Frogs will open their regular-season Friday, Nov. 14 against Prairie View A&M. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m. CT from Fort Worth.
