POST-GAME QUOTES
TCU 98, Grambling State 75
Daniel-Meyer Coliseum
Fort Worth, Texas

TCU head coach Trent Johnson
Opening statement:

“We haven’t had a game like that in a long time where we have been able to get guys like Kemal Dincer and Clyde Smith III into some game action. It was a nice win, but we have to turn around by 9 a.m. tomorrow. We have a much-improved, physical and good rebounding Tulsa team coming in Saturday.”

On Michael Williams’ first career start:
“He’s been playing well. I started thinking about it a week and a half ago. I thought the opportunity presented itself tonight. He did a good job and had six assists and no turnovers as a freshman. I thought Kyan (Anderson) helped too by being quick off the ball. We need to have all guys on deck and ready to play. We just have to be ready to play. Regardless of who we play, we should have that energy all the time.”

On Kyan Anderson’s stretch where he had 17 consecutive points:
“I thought they had some breakdowns offensively and he had some open shots, and got into rhythm. We stayed within our framework offensively. It’s all about staying within the flow of offense.”

TCU junior guard Kyan Anderson
On how Trent Johnson prepared the team’s tempo:
“He talked about it a lot. One thing we changed in practice was being more competitive. It started with Michael [Williams] and I pushing each other. All our teammates followed and it carried over to the game.”

On his streak of 17 consecutive points for the Horned Frogs:
“I didn’t realize it. Coach (Johnson) had told me earlier to come out a little aggressive in this game and get a lead early since we have a game on Saturday. I needed to save my legs. I just tried to do that early.”

TCU freshman guard Michael Williams
On getting his first collegiate start:
“It feels good. I’ve always wanted to start a game at the college level. Really, I just want to contribute in any way I could. As long as we got the win, that's all that matters in the end.”

On the team’s first home offensive breakthrough after several ones on the road:
“I felt like we came out with intensity. It was good for all of our fans to come out and see us play. It was a good feeling.”
