TCU Scholar-Athletes of the Month
April 4, 2017 FORT WORTH, Texas - Vladimir Brodziansky of men's basketball and Brenley Goertzen of women's track and field have been named TCU's Scholar-Athletes of the Month for their impressive performances in and out of competition.
Brodziansky, originally from Slovakia, had an incredible season this year with men's basketball. Over the course of the last month he was named NABC All-District and AP All-Big 12. Most recently, he traveled to New York City after the team's advancement sent them to the NIT semifinals. He played in Madison Square Garden where they won the semifinals matchup against UCF, contributing 18 points in the win. They advanced to the finals, where they beat Georgia Tech 88-56 and brought the NIT Championship trophy home to Fort Worth.
Brenley Goertzen has kept her foot on the gas pedal and her hand in the TCU record book throughout a defining sophomore season. Last week, the Woodbury, Minn. native broke the school record in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 15:51.78 at the Stanford Invitational and placed second overall in a highly competitive field of competitors. In the outdoor home opener, Goertzen cruised to a 4:27.36 first-place finish in the 1500 meters.
She's had an incredible second year in both cross country and now track and field. This is the second school record she has broken this season. In the fall, she took home bronze at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships and earned a berth at the NCAA Championships. During the indoor season, Goertzen earned gold in the 5K and bronze in the 3K at the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
