April 20, 2006
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU men's basketball head coach Neil Dougherty has announced the latest addition to his 2006-07 signing class Thursday. Prep guard Martiese Morones of the Millersburg Military Institute in Kentucky, signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Horned Frogs next season.
"Martiese is a true point guard," MMI's associate basketball coach Lynn Ramage said. "He's very quick and athletic. He's a great floor leader and loves uptempo basketball. Martiese is also a solid kid who comes from a great family."
At 6-foot and 163 pounds, Morones started in all but one game for MMI's "Gold" team this year. He led the squad in assists and was second on the team in steals. The native from Lexington, Ky., averaged 14 points and eight assists per game in 2005-06.
MMI "Gold" went 15-13-1 on the year and was ranked 27th in the nation among prep high school basketball teams by HoopsUSA.com.
Morones, the second recruit to sign with the Frogs this week, makes the fifth signee for 2006-07.
Morones is the son of former University of Kentucky star Sean Woods, who played for the Wildcats from 1990-1992 and is currently an assistant coach at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi.
