TCU to Return to LA for Classic

May 14, 2018

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU men’s basketball will make its second consecutive appearance in the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic presented by Citi when it faces USC in the event on Dec. 7 at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

It is the same site and event that saw TCU defeat then No. 22 Nevada, 84-80, on Dec. 8 last season. Jaylen Fisher poured in 20 points and dished out six assists and was named TCU’s MVP. It was North Hollywood native Jamie Dixon’s first time serving as head coach of a team in Los Angeles, an area that has strong ties to TCU.

“We are excited to return to Los Angeles and to the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic this fall,” said Dixon. “It’s another great opportunity for us to play in one of the top venues in the world, the STAPLES Center, and in California, home to many TCU alums and current students. It’s also an opportunity for us to play a quality team from the Pac-12.”

Of the 10,394 enrolled at TCU this past season, 1,112 are from California. Of the 88,000 living TCU alumni, 2,800 of them are living in California, including 2,000 in Southern California and 1,300 in Los Angeles.

TCU went 21-12 overall last season and a program-best 9-9 in the Big 12 Conference. The Frogs made postseason play for the second-straight season and earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the first time in 20 seasons. They return five regulars in the starting lineup from a team that led the Big 12 in scoring average and shooting percentage in conference games.

USC finished 24-12 overall and 12-6 in the PAC-12. The Trojans were a No. 1 seed in the NIT where they lost to Western Kentucky in the second round.

TCU is 1-1 all-time against USC. The Trojans won the last meeting, 83-59 in Los Angeles. The Frogs won the first meeting, 81-69 in Fort Worth.

The third annual Basketball Hall of Fame Classic is one-day tripleheader that also features Saint Mary’s vs. New Mexico and Nevada vs. Arizona State. Game times and television broadcast information will be released at a later date.

Tickets for the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic will go on-sale to the general public on Friday, May 18, 2018 at noon via AXS.com, by phone at 888-929-7849 and the STAPLES Center box office.
