Basketball Announces Coaching Staff Changes
July 2, 2014
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU men's basketball head coach Trent Johnson announced the promotion of Chris Tifft and the additions of Matt Read and Robert Wright, respectively, to his staff Wednesday morning.
Tifft takes over as an assistant coach after serving the past two seasons as the Horned Frogs Director of Operations. Tifft joined the Frogs from the junior college ranks, where he served eight seasons as the head coach at New Mexico Junior College and Lamar (Colo.) Community College. He also served as an assistant coach on Johnson's Nevada staff from 1999 through 2001.
Read will take over for Tifft as TCU's Director of Operations after serving the same role last season at the University of Houston. Read, who served two seasons as the Cougars video coordinator prior to being elevated to Director of Operations in 2013-14, joined Houston's staff after finishing his bachelor's degree at Lubbock Christian. There, he served as team captain on the Chaparrals men's basketball team and graduated summa cum laude with a 3.86 grade-point average, while studying organizational management. Read received the LCU Distinguished Achievement Award as the Top Male Student from the Organizational Management Department and was a member of the All-Sooner Athletic Conference Team, and the league's All-Academic Team. A former NJCAA All-American at Collin College, Read spent the 2009-10 season at Utah and was a member of the 2010 Mountain West Conference All-Academic Team.
Wright, a former Dallas Carter High School coach who led the Cowboys to three-straight regional finals and compiled a 122-19 record during his tenure, will serve as TCU's Director of High School Relations. Wright, who previously had stints at George Washington and fellow Big 12 foe Texas, was a guard on Texas A&M's 1980 NCAA Sweet 16 team that posted a 26-8 record. As an associate head coach, Wright helped GWU advance to the 1999 NCAA Tournament.
