Horned Frogs Announce Signing of Collins
Nov. 13, 2013
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU head coach Trent Johnson announced the signing of Chauncey Collins Wednesday morning.
"Chauncey is a very explosive player who can play both the one and two for us," said head coach Trent Johnson. "When you look at his overall skill set, he has what I call the `It' factor in that he just makes plays on both ends of the court."
Collins, an Oklahoma City native who is home-schooled, will don the Purple and White next season after being named the first unanimous winner of the prestigious Maravich Award, which is symbolic of the nation's top homeschool basketball player, at the 22nd annual National Christian Homeschool Basketball Tournament.
Collins, who plays high school ball for Oklahoma City Storm High School, had multiple 40-point games for the Storm last season. He averaged 23.4 points per game, while totaling 1,125 points in leading the Storm to the national homeschool championship.
Ranked as the fourth-best player in the state of Oklahoma by 247Sports and a first-team Little All-City selection by The Oklahoman, Collins, who also claimed the Slam Dunk title for a second-consecutive year at nationals, scored 38 points in the finals to lead the Storm to their first national title since 2004 versus Houston Christian Youth Association.
