FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU Athletics Department has officially announced that the Horned Frog men's basketball team has signed a trio of players, two high schoolers and one junior college star, for the 2003-04 season. Blake Adams, Aaron Curtis and Art Pierce all have signed national letters of intent to play at TCU for head coach Neil Dougherty.

"This recruiting class will begin to head us in the direction that we are trying to go," Dougherty said. "Each of these players answers a need that we have. As a group, they are very solid. They're kids who understand how to play and they're gym rats. They play all day long."

Curtis, a former South Grand Prairie standout, is a small forward at Lon Morris Junior College, where he averaged 16.8 points and 5.7 rebounds last season. He was a second-team all-conference honoree, and helped lead his team to the National Junior College Final Four. Curtis, 6-5, who shoots 34 percent from three-point range, is also a Street & Smith's preseason second-team junior-college All-America selection.

Adams, a 6-5 forward, is a standout at Houston Nimitz High School, where he averaged 15 points and seven rebounds a game last season. He currently is rated as the fifth-best senior in the state of Texas. Adams is a preseason first-team all-Houston choice. His stock rose significantly this summer when he was the top scorer on the Houston Select team.

Pierce, a 6-9 forward/center from Tyler Grace High School, averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks per game as a junior. He is rated as the state's 18th-best senior according to TexasHoops.com. He led the Cougars to the TAPPS 4A championship a year ago by hitting a buzzer beater to earn a 42-40 victory in the finals. Pierce was a second-team all-state selection and was named the district's most valuable player. He also was an academic all-stater as a junior.
