Shepherd, Lovings Named Muscle Milk Athletes of the Week
Dec. 10, 2013
Shepherd was a one-man wrecking crew in the paint as the Horned Frogs remained perfect on the road with a 71-61 win at Mississippi State Thursday night. He recorded a career-high 16 rebounds while also adding nine points and three blocks. He was one defensive rebound short of the fifth-best number in single-game history, dating back to Kurt Thomas' 15 against SMU in 1994.
TCU is now 5-3 on the season, and will host UTPA on Sunday at 1 p.m. CST.
Lovings had a huge night for the Horned Frogs last Wednesday night in a 60-52 home win over Stephen F. Austin. She had her third-career double-double with 11 points and 10 blocks, the latter being a career-high and the fourth-most in a single game in TCU history. She was also two rebounds away from a triple-double with eight on the evening. Lovings now has three double-doubles through points and blocks alone in her TCU career, one more than former WNBA veteran Sandora Irvin.
The women will also take on UTPA its next time out on Sunday, but they will take the nightcap of the doubleheader with a 4 p.m. CST tip-off.
