TCU Experiences First Home Loss to Rice
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Mike Wilks scored 22 points as Rice handed Texas Christian its first home loss this season, 73-66, on Saturday night.
TCU (13-6, 3-3 Western Athletic Conference) had won 15 consecutive home games, nine this season.
Wilks, who has scored double digits in the last 21 games, hit 8 of 11 shots, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out six assists for Rice (10-6, 2-2).
T.J. McKenzie added 19 points and 13 rebounds. Rice outrebounded the Horned Frogs 44-33.
Bingo Merriex hit a 3-pointer with 1:24 and TCU trailed 70-63, but the Horned Frogs scored only 3 points the rest of the way.
While the Owls shot 50 percent for the game, the Horned Frogs connected on only 35 percent of their shots (20-of-58). They also struggled at the free throw line, hitting 19 of 31 attempts.
Ryan Carroll, TCU's leading scorer at a 18.6 points per game, had only eight points on 2 of 11 shooting, including 1 of 8 from long range. Carroll has only hit three of 20 3-point attempts in the past two games after hitting 24 of his previous 48.
Greedy Daniels led TCU with 13 points. Derrick Davenport added 10 points and six rebounds.
