Frogs Pull Away From SMU 100-91
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Greedy Daniels scored 16 of his 23 points in the second half and broke a school record in steals as Texas Christian beat Southern Methodist 100-91 Saturday afternoon.
Daniels, an off guard, picked up his 97th steal of the season early in the second half to pass Mike Jones in steals for one season for TCU (15-6, 4-3 WAC). Daniels finished the game with 8 assists and 2 steals.
SMU (14-6, 5-3) started the game on fire, led by Quinton Ross, who scored 16 of his team's first 24 points as the Mustangs went ahead 24-18 midway through the first half. Ross had 18 points at the half and finished with a career-high 22 points on 9-of-19 shooting.
The Horned Frogs shot 44 percent from the field in the first half, but shot 56 percent in the second as they pulled away. Center Derrick Davenport (17 points, six blocked shots) stepped out and nailed a 3-pointer and another long baseline jumper to open the second half and helped TCU move in front 51-44.
Ryan Carroll, who had been mired in a three-game shooting slump, led TCU with 24 points on 7-of-13 shooting and 8-of-12 at the free throw line. Freshman Nucleus Smith started the second half and finished with a career-high 15 points.
Damon Hancock led the Mustangs with a career-high 28 points and six assists.
