Hawaii Hands Men's Basketball Loss, 102-87






HONOLULU (AP) _ Mike McIntyre scored 21 points and four other starters were in double figures Thursday night as Hawaii turned the tables on high-scoring Texas Christian 102-87.

In addition to McIntyre, Nerijus Puida had 19 points, Troy Ostler 18, Mindaugas Burneika 17 and Predrag Savovic 16 giving Hawaii (13-12, 7-7 Western Athletic Conference) its highest point total of the season.

Usually it's TCU (18-9, 7-6) that reeled off 100 point-plus games. The Horned Frogs, who reached 141 points in one game, led the nation in scoring average at 94.7 and had hit the century mark 12 times.

A hot-shooting second half (23-for-30) helped the Rainbow Warriors pull away. It was tied at 44 at the half, but Hawaii went off on a 15-4 run, helped by three 3-pointers, and _ after TCU pulled to within four points _ another spurt, 19-6, to put the game away.

Puida led the second charge with eight points with McIntyre contributing six and Burneika six.

The biggest margin was 20 points.

For the game, the Rainbow Warriors shot 61 percent (36-for-59), including a 10-for-18 from the 3-point line.

TCU got off to a hot start, hitting all five of its shots to open the game. The first half was close with neither team leading by more than eight points.

TCU, despite suspensions of two of its top players, had won last two games averaging 106 points.
