TCU Head Coach Gary Patterson
On what he told the team postgame:
"I told the team at halftime that I told them what this game was going to be like. Southeastern Louisiana is an athletic team. We had fourth downs that we didn't play well, they get a couple big plays and we were right in the middle of the ball game. I told them if you don't emotionally get ready people get hurt. We have a couple of guys carried off, we have to go get ready to play and we'll move forward."
On whether Trevone Boykin sparked the offense:
"I don't know about that, I just think we finally woke up. (Boykin) just makes some plays with his legs that Casey (Pachall) hadn't done and Casey makes some plays with his arm that Trevone doesn't do. Two weeks in a row (Boykin) came in and did some good things. He still has to get to where he doesn't throw off his back foot. He puts more into it - we had a guy down the middle of the field, the safety came in and knocked the ball away. It should have been a touchdown. There are some things he still has to get better at. The last fourth down he should've just thrown the hitch. He was looking down the middle of the field, all we needed was a first down on third down, throw the hitch. That is what the call was. You can't always be looking for big plays, that is not what this game is about, it is about winning. It is not about how many yards, not about all the rest of it, it is about winning."
On how close the team has played to its potential over the first two games:
"You have one end of the spectrum to the other. It is hard to buy into all of it because you have a Texas Tech on a Thursday. Against LSU so much was put into the ball game. You have a Southeastern Louisiana team that is going to win a lot of football games, let me just promise you that now. Their quarterback is a really good player, good enough to play in 19 games at Oregon. Defensively you have at least two defensive backs that are going to have a chance to go in the NFL Draft. They're a good-looking football team, I knew that watching them warm up. I walked into the locker room and told our team they better get ready because they were going to play someone who came ready to play."
On the teams overall performance:
"For us we're 1-1. I thought we didn't play with very much enthusiasm today. I told them that is what good teams don't do, you can't come down to the level of the team that you're playing, you get beat. You win the ones you are supposed to and then the big games take care of themselves. We didn't do a very good job of that. You get about three fourth downs. Early in the ball game we score two or three touchdowns when we need to. Defensively besides a couple plays I thought we played very well. We went from a totally different offense and emotionally getting ready for an LSU to basically a triple option. (Southeastern Louisiana) played on a Thursday night so they had extra preparation. You probably saw 14 plays that we didn't even work on. We've got work to do. We were glad - like I said earlier in the week I thought this was going to be a tough ball game."
TCU junior quarterback Trevone Boykin
On teams performance:
"We didn't even put up enough points in the first half. It was almost a tied game. We didn't play to our level of ability to beat these guys. We have to do way better next week against Texas Tech."
On what was missing in first half:
"We didn't have a vertical game in the first half. I don't think we threw a pass over 10 yards."
TCU senior cornerback Jason Verrett
On Devonte Fields playing in second half:
"It was real good just to see him out there and the pressure that we're going to be able to get with him in there. I'm happy that he's back."
TCU junior safety Sam Carter
On team performance:
"I give us a C. We have a lot of things to improve on. Today on defense we gave up two or three big plays and that's just guys not doing the right job. I have a lot to improve on certain things. We have a lot of work to improve on."
On what team should focus on:
"Everyone doing their assignments. Even me too, I gave up two plays from not doing my assignments. We need to eliminate the little mistakes because it cost us two big touchdowns.
TCU Running Back BJ Catalon
On how TCU rotates its running backs:
"I actually like that. You have Aaron [Green], Waymon [James] and myself in the rotation, and that helps us out because we all get carries and we all get to see the field. We get to put a running back and a receiver and we have good playmakers at both of those positions."
On if there were any worries at the half:
"I was kind of like `let's go guys,' and get a win at home, and last year we didn't win a lot at home. We had to focus in and adjust and play TCU football. I never felt we were in trouble or anything, but we couldn't look ahead to next week. We had to focus up and we did that pretty well."
On the team's inability to convert on fourth downs early in the game:
"To me, as a player, getting touchdowns is a lot better than getting three points. We learned early we had to settle and take the three points and do what you gotta do."
On the team's spark with Boykin because of his experience last year:
"I'm used to playing with him. When I was a freshman, [Boykin] was our quarterback, and that's what I'm used to. When he's in there I feel as comfortable as I do with Casey [Pachall], and everybody on the team feels the same way. [Boykin] can make plays with his feet and throw the ball.
On Boykin's overall performance in passing, receiving, and rushing in the game:
"[Boykin] is a pretty exciting player when he gets into the game. He was a receiver today and he can run and catch and of course throw it. When he's out there, we know we don't have to make that extra play because he can do a lot."
Southeastern Louisiana head coach Ron Roberts
"This is a great program, a great tradition, and I was proud of how we handled it. We didn't back down, we didn't blink, and I'm proud of the guys on that front. This was great for our program to say we came in here and played well."
On TCU second-half defensive efforts:
"We weren't surprised by the defense, they had some great plays upfront. We knew they had some great players and we knew we would have to fight for first downs. It didn't surprise us coming in, we knew they were real solid inside."
