TCU Head Coach Gary Patterson
"If you turn the ball over as many times as we did, you aren't going to beat a junior high team. I thought we came out flat. I thought the cheerleaders, band and student section were great. Outside of that, everyone waited around and all of a sudden we were down 10-0. We fought back and did what we needed to do, but you are not going to overcome some of the things we did tonight.
"I thought we played great on special teams. Their punter (Louie Sakoda) is one of the best in the country. We were able to block a punt and return it for a touchdown. We also had three or four returns that could have gone for touchdowns. That's how we stayed in the game.
"We played well defensively in the second half. I thought our guys did some things to pressure Brian Johnson. He's a good quarterback, and he hurt us a little with his feet.
"With the 16-day, we'll have a chance to get some injured people ready to play. We will get our energy back. We play a good New Mexico team (Nov. 3) and then have a Thursday game against BYU (Nov. 8)."
Utah Head Coach Kyle Wittingham
"We are starting to find a way to win some games. It was good to come out of here with a victory tonight. It's a tough venue and TCU is a quality team. We watched their tape early in the week, and it's easy to see why they are the preseason favorites.
"It's a four-game winning streak for these players. That's the bottom line. Football is all about players. Coaches get too much credit. It's a players' game. They make the plays and they did a nice job tonight.
"It keeps us heading in the right direction. We are still in it mathematically. Two losses usually won't get you a piece of the title, but we can't worry about that. We're just trying to find a way to win each week, and we did a decent job of that tonight.
"Offensively, we weren't bad but not as productive as we have been the last couple of weeks. Defensively, I thought we played very well. Special teams were a big negative for us today. That was the area that really allowed TCU to stay in the game. They had excellent special-teams play."
"Getting (quarterback) Brian Johnson back was huge. He is our team leader. When he came back full time at nearly full strength, it was really a huge difference for us. We have the guy that we can rally around and is the unquestioned field general of this team."
