Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes |  Photo Gallery

TCU head coach Gary Patterson
On final four games...
"This is a four-game season, so we are 1-0 right now. It's a tough four games. We have to go to Norman, to Lubbock and then we have to beat Baylor in the last week. We have a lot of work to do. I'm excited about it, and I think our kids are excited about it."

"Next week, we're going to have to move the football, and we're going to have to get stops if we want to win. It will be interesting to see how it all turns out."

After the loss to Iowa State...
"I was worried last week how our guys were going to respond. I was after them pretty good on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I'm not a very good loser, and we went about our business."

On the offense against Texas...
"I thought it was big that the offense didn't turn the ball over, and we got what we needed."

On the defense against Texas...
"Really, we have played well the whole year. The depth of rotating eight guys has really helped us. Two-deep at the front has really helped us. In a game when they aren't going to huddle and go fast -- and that's what is going to happen next week also -- we're going to have to use all eight guys."

"Like I told the guys last Sunday, for two weeks in a row we're going to have to be the best defense on the field. If you want to win you have to be the best defense. I thought tonight we played well and were the best defense on the field."

On the crowd...
"The home-field advantage of our student section is unbelievable. I thought the energy inside the stadium was unbelievable."

TCU senior running backKyle Hicks
On this week's win following last week's loss...
"It was really important. We knew we didn't have our best performance last week, so we tried to come out here and bounce back. We did a great job of that."

On practices this week...
"[Coach] was very hard on us this week. We knew this was a big game coming in, so we were just focused, prepared and ready to go."

On this week's big performance...
"Credit my offensive line and the receivers, they were doing a great job blocking downfield. That made it easy for me to run."

On the Texas defense...
"It was a hard, tough football game. Their defense is very good, but so is ours. We just try to do our best, stay within our offense, make routine plays and score some points."

On the TCU defense...
"The defense played lights out. It was incredible watching them out there. They did their job when we weren't moving the ball out there. Credit to our defense, they did a heckuva job out there today."

TCU junior linebackerTy Summers
On overall performance...
"I felt good. As a defense there were things we could fix, I know the offense knows there are things we can improve on as well, but we'll take it as a grain of salt. One game at a time, right now we're getting ready for OU and I'm looking forward to that game."

On the state of the defense...
"I feel like there's still areas that we can improve on, our pass defense perhaps or getting pressure. But, I fell like right now we were able to perform well enough to help give us the victory tonight. The offense came and gave us some big plays when we needed them to, so that really helped us out."

On bouncing back from the loss at Iowa State...
"We just kind of put it in the past, when everything's in the past you can't go back and fix it. So it's something we had to overcome and bounce back."

TCU senior defensive endMat Boesen
On last week's practice...
"We were pretty upset with ourselves after the loss and really wanted to be able to come back out this week and have a statement game and bounce back from that loss. We prepared extra hard for this week."

On Ben Banogu's performance...
"I felt a big momentum swing, Ben's one of my roommates, one of my best friends and he's a great player so I got really excited once Ben made those plays and definitely there was a boost of energy going into the locker room."

On playing in Norman next week...
"As a defense we like that. We like coming into hostile environments like that and just competing with them and giving them our all and getting after it. So I think as a team we like that, we like that pressure, we like being under pressure, being the underdog, and just coming after it."

TCU senior quarterback Kenny Hill
On Oklahoma...
"They can put up a lot of points. I know Coach P is going to start getting ready for them pretty soon. The offense, we will start watching them tomorrow after we watch this film and it's just trying to get your mind for another week."

On the difficulty of the defenses...
"It was big to get that lead for our defense. They shut it down there for a while. Just to get that last touchdown at the end that was big just to seal it. It's really just staying the course, keep going. We just have to keep pushing and we did that tonight."

On this week's motivation after last week...
"We were ready to go, you could see it in practice. Everyone was locked in, we knew we had to come out and have a pretty good performance and I thought everyone bounced back pretty well."

On the TCU defense...
"It's been the same thing we've seen all year. Those dudes, they can play. I know they have a lot of confidence, confidence in what Coach P is having them do, and they have been executing very well. I know they are going to try to keep it going this week."

On the mentality of the team...
"[We just wanted] to get another win and get rolling in the right direction before Oklahoma. Coach P talked about it all week. This is a four-game season to close it out, we got the first one, we just have to keep it going."

On the passing attack in recent weeks...
"Running the ball, we don't have to throw it all that much if we can run it like that. All three of our touchdowns were rushing today, I'm not mad at it. We got a win and that's all we care about. On to the next one."

On the offense's performance...
"It's a grind-out game. It's one of those when we watch film, it's not going to be the prettiest of wins, but we did what we had to do to get the win. I'm proud of these guys, they battled hard, the defense played unbelievable. It's just trying to keep it going into next week."

Texas head coach Tom Herman
On the game...
"Hats off to TCU. That's a really good football team. I think it was very evident that you saw the two best defenses in our conference battle it out. From my perspective, the biggest difference was, early we gave up a couple big plays. We didn't match that offensively. Then the defense settled down and had a stretch there in the first quarter all the way with a few minutes left played lights out, played well enough, played winning football."

On the Texas offensive line...
"We have to get better. Surprisingly, I think we have. I know it doesn't feel that way tonight, but I think we are steadily improving in that area. Offensive football is really hard when you have to be perfect. We've got to find ways, whether that's throw some quick screens on first down to stay ahead of the chains and not get ourselves in third-and-long and we've got to make some more plays down the field too."

On the how to solve the problems on offense this late in the season...
"It's not the NFL. We can't go on the waiver wire and go pick up free agents. We have to get our guys better. We have be creative offensively too. When you're playing that level of defense if you do find yourself behind the sticks, maybe it's okay to throw some quick game on 3rd-and-8, 3rd-and-9 and see if you can break a tackle and if you don't you jog the best punter in the America out there and one of the best defenses in the country out and live to play another series."

On the confidence of becoming bowl eligible...
"What I told them is that we have an opportunity to go 1-0 this week and be one step closer to getting to a bowl game. These seniors deserve to a bowl game. That's big picture. We have to worry about Kansas this week. We understand that it puts us one step closer to that big-picture bowl. I'm very confident. If we keep playing defense that way, we will find a way to gut out a couple wins here.

On using junior quarterback Jerrod Heard...
"We had a little package for him. It was a pre-play package. It wasn't much. When we threw him in there and he had negative yards and we were down 10 points and needed to move the ball a little bit, not, in my opinion, throw that out there and say `hey, let's see if this works.' We have to do better job if we continue to have that package. We have to do a better job of getting him in early and testing the waters."

Texas senior defensive lineman Poona Ford
On turning things around...
"In everything we do, we have to go harder and harder and execute."

On the key to shutting TCU down after getting down early...
"It is just our mentality. We shot ourselves in the foot in the beginning and gave them some momentum, but we calmed down and started executing."

On feeling pleased with defensive performance despite the loss...
"No, not really. We shot ourselves in the foot at the beginning, but the penalties that caused us to give up the touchdown gave them momentum for the rest of the game. We tried to bounce back as best as we could."

Texas junior linebacker Malik Jefferson
On playing much better defense after getting down 17-0...
"I think it was just important to get the ball back to our offense in the best situations. We started off really slow and had a lot of communication errors. We just tried to communicate better and tried to get our offense into the best field position as possible. That is all you can do as a defense, just trying to create turnovers and do what you can and just make plays."

On the reason the defense started out slow...
"I think it was just jitters. They did a lot of different formations and gave a lot of different snap counts. We had some communication errors, but we fixed them in the second half."

On what is causing the jitters...
"I don't know. I think with them lining up and changing formations and personnel, they were going so fast and we couldn't line up and nobody communicated enough. Going forward, watching film, we are going to make sure we do a better job of that."

On confidence going forward about making a bowl game...
"Very confident. It is very important that we go out there and practice like we have always been practicing and keeping that same mentality and going out there to win the ballgame."

On defense's pressure to perform well...
"We strive for perfection. It may not come, although a perfect world is ideal. There are going to be busted coverages and missed tackles, but I think you have to just go out there and play your game."

On playing defense in the dime formation...
"Yeah, it's fun. I just like the who d-line getting after them. Seeing those guys in the back end be relaxed with not as much pressure on them. Stopping the run is my job."

Texas sophomore quarterback Shane Buechele
On the difficulty of TCU's defense...
"On defense, especially on the back end, was things they have shown before. We just had to get the ball out quickly and get the ball to the guys who were open."

On pressure offense is under due to stellar performance of defense...
"Our defense every week plays great. That is frustrating, and I'm sure it's extremely frustrating for them too just seeing what we do on offense. On offense we just have to get a lot better and put together drives and stop shooting ourselves in the foot."

On blame for offensive struggles...
"It's on us. Offensively, it's on me. I have to get a lot better, falling back on my fundamentals and going through reads. Just back to the basics and putting drives together. We have to try to do everything we can to score on offense."

On comparison from last year's offense to this year's...
"It's different. It's two completely different styles of offense. We are in meetings so much, and we are in the film room so much that it's not too much for us. It's all about going back the fundamentals and going out there and having fun while playing football."
