TCU at Kansas State
Nov. 16, 2013
Final: Kansas State 33, TCU 31
Head Coach Gary Patterson
On the team’s performance…
“Yeah, we had as much to win as they did. There is only one person to blame and that is me. We ran two guys on the punt return that had the same number which we do not do and so we left our defense on the field and let them go on fourth down and that was the difference in the ball game. Down the road you have to make plays, and you have to be defensive. That is a mistake that cannot be blamed on anyone, but me.”
On confidence of the field goal kicker…
“From the first day he has been here he has kicked over sixties in practice. He has not been as successful as of late doing that, kicking the long ones. He has been leaving them long as of late, but with this one he kicked it and drove it though. He gave us a chance to win the ball game. You could not ask for more.”
On play of Trevone Boykin…
“The resurgence of Casey [Pachall] has seriously helped because we can let him [Boykin] play a lot of different positions, not just quarterback, which has made a lot of difference to him.”
On the play of the team…
“Like I said there was a lot of guys on both sides of the ball made some great plays. K-State had receivers with guys draped all over them and they still made plays. We had our guys when we had slant passes and there are just some great plays that really helped us stay in the ball game. They fought back last week when we let it slip against West Virginia and we fought back again today. There is a lot of fight at TCU, we just got to find away to win them instead of lose them.”

On coming back near the end of the game...
“I thought after the field goal, I had a lot of faith in our defense. I definitely thought we were going to pull it out. Unfortunate events and things that happened early in the ball game put them in a certain situation that they should not have been in. It is football; things happen and things are always going to happen. It just did not go our way tonight.”
On the offensive line’s performance...
“They played very well tonight. There were still some things we did not pick up, but that is a part of football as well. Things are going to happen and the defense will fool you sometimes. It was just mistakes on my part or on the offensive line’s part for not sliding or not picking something up. I feel like they had a good day today.”
On close games this season...
“It makes it very tough seeing how we played, mostly at the first half of the season as compared to the second half of the season. We know that we are capable of playing with these teams and beating them. We have to put a full game together every week. There are times that we did this and times that we did not. Things just have not gone our way. “
On Baylor being the bowl game...
“It is our next game and we cannot think of it any other way. We are disappointed and very upset that we are not going to a bowl game, but we are going to play as if we are going to a bowl game. Our mindset is not going to change, we are going to come out and practice the way we need to. In two weeks on Saturday, we are going to show up as if we were going to a big bowl with the right mindset. That is how we have to approach everything. “

On mood in the locker room...
’I am not used to losing. Everybody in the locker room is sad and we do not really know what to say to this loss.”
On a tough season...
“It is tough. We have had some good games and some bad games. Coach says sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it does not. This season a lot of games have not gone our way, so we learn from our mistakes and we will be better next year.”
