Kelton To Play In All-Star Game
Jan. 6, 2012
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Former TCU punter Anson Kelton will play in the Jan. 16 Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game in Tucson, Ariz.
Kelton was the Horned Frogs' first four-year starter at punter since Royce Huffman (1996-99).
A Fort Worth native, Kelton appeared on this season's Ray Guy Award Watch List. He averaged 40.2 yards per punt while placing 14 kicks inside the opponent 20 with just six touchbacks. He set a career-high with nine punts of at least 50 yards.
Kelton was the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week when he averaged 45.8 yards on four punts in a win at Boise State.
Over the last three seasons, Kelton had 50 punts inside the 20 and only 11 touchbacks.
Kelton closed his career with his third straight outstanding performance in a bowl game. He had a 43.8 average on five punts, including two inside the 20, in the Poinsettia Bowl victory over Louisiana Tech. His 67-yard first-quarter punt was the second-longest of his career while setting a Poinsettia Bowl record.
Kelton was an unsung hero in last year's Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin, twice pinning the Badgers inside their own 11-yard line in the second half. Wisconsin's average starting field position for the game was its own 20.
In the 2010 Fiesta Bowl, Kelton averaged 48.4 yards on eight punts with three inside the 20.
