April 20, 2015

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- TCU safety Derrick Kindred has been named to the watch list for the 2015 Lott IMPACT Trophy.

Named after Pro Football Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, the Lott IMPACT Trophy recognizes the nation's top defensive player in terms of his impact on and off the field.

Kindred received All-Big 12 accolades last season when he placed third on the Horned Frogs with 80 tackles, including 4 1/2 for loss. He tied for second with four interceptions, including a 44-yard return for a touchdown against Iowa State. The senior from San Antonio had two fumble recoveries while also forcing a fumble. Kindred had a career-high 12 tackles, including 10 solo stops, in a win at West Virginia.

Kindred is a key part of a TCU defensive unit that led the Big 12 last season in scoring defense (19.0 points per game), total defense (341.8 yards per game) and pass efficiency defense (106.6 rating). The Horned Frogs were also second in the conference in rushing defense (108.8 yards per game).

TCU two-time consensus first-team All-America defensive end Jerry Hughes was the 2009 Lott IMPACT Trophy recipient.
