Oberkrom on Lou Groza Award Watch List
July 10, 2013
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- TCU's Jaden Oberkrom has been named to the watch list for the 2013 Lou Groza Award, presented to the nation's outstanding placekicker.
As a true freshman last season, Oberkrom was a Lou Groza Award semifinalist.
TCU is one of just eight schools nationally to have both its placekicker and punter (Ethan Perry) on watch lists for this year's Lou Groza Award and Ray Guy Award, respectively.
Oberkrom was perfect on 42 extra-point attempts while going 22-of-30 on field goals. He was second in the Big 12 and 11th nationally with his 1.69 field goals per game. The 22 field goals tied for fourth-best in a single season at TCU.
An Arlington, Texas, native, Oberkrom ranked first nationally among freshman kickers and second in TCU single-season history with 108 points.
Oberkrom's 42 consecutive PATs established a Horned Frogs' season record for perfection. The streak is also fourth-best all-time at TCU.
Oberkrom set TCU and Big 12 records, while tying the NCAA freshman mark, with six field goals against Texas Tech. He was one shy of the NCAA single-game record. His last field goal in the 2012 campaign was a 53-yard effort with 2:42 remaining to give the Horned Frogs a lead over Michigan State in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.
Former TCU placekicker Michael Reeder was the 1995 recipient of the Lou Groza Award.
