Dawson on Butkus Award Watch List
July 14, 2014
FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU's Paul Dawson has been included on the preseason watch list for the 2014 Butkus Award, presented to the nation's top linebacker.
A senior from Dallas, Dawson was a wide receiver at Skyline High School. He led TCU last season with 91 tackles while placing second with 10 stops for loss.
Dawson's career-high 17 tackles, including three for loss with a half sack, against Kansas were the most by a Horned Frog since Jonathan Anderson tallied 17 against BYU in 2011. The 17 tackles also tied for the third-highest total in Gary Patterson's 13 seasons as TCU's head coach.
Dawson reached double figures in stops in five of the final seven games, including closing the season with 15 tackles and a pass breakup versus Baylor. He totaled 14 tackles, including two for loss, in the win at Iowa State.
Dawson is one of nine returning starters on defense for TCU this season, not including 2012 Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year Devonte Fields who was limited to just three games last year due to injury.
