Patterson Signs Contract Extension

Aug. 9, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte has announced that head football coach Gary Patterson has signed a contract extension to 2022.

“Gary Patterson is synonymous with TCU and Fort Worth,” Del Conte said. “His value to our community goes beyond the football field. It’s obviously a great day for our Horned Frogs Family when Coach Patterson reiterates that TCU and Fort Worth are his home!" Patterson, the Horned Frogs’ all-time winningest coach with 143 victories, will be entering his 16th season as head coach and 19th year overall at TCU. He has totaled 20 national coach of the year awards, while his .753 winning percentage (143-47) ranks fifth among active coaches nationally. He is the third-longest tenured FBS head coach in the nation.

The Horned Frogs are 23-3 over the last two seasons, including a 15-3 mark in the Big 12. TCU has finished in the top 10 in back-to-back seasons and five times in the last eight years. In 15 seasons under Patterson, TCU has posted six top-10 finishes and 10 in the top 25. TCU has reached the 10-win mark 10 times in the last 14 seasons, including nine 11-win campaigns.

Patterson’s success on the gridiron is mirrored in the classroom. In each of the last eight seasons, TCU has been recognized by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as one of the nation’s leaders in its graduation rate for student-athletes.

TCU has 24 former players on active NFL rosters. Overall, Patterson has had 41 players drafted with 93 in NFL camps.
