NEW YORK -- The TCU football team is ranked 20th in the preseason Associated Press poll announced Saturday.

The Horned Frogs were also 20th in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 released earlier this month.

TCU is ranked in the preseason for the seventh time in the last eight years and ninth time since 2000.

TCU returns 14 starters from last year's squad, including eight on a defensive unit that topped the Big 12 in six categories and ranked 16th nationally, despite having faced five of the nation's top-13 offenses.

TCU's 84-19 record (.816) since 2005 is the second-best mark in the nation.

The Horned Frogs are one of four Big 12 teams ranked in the top 20.

TCU opens the 2013 campaign on Aug. 31 versus No. 12 LSU in the Cowboys Classic at AT&T Stadium.
