McCoy Named MW Special Teams Player Of The Week
Sept. 5, 2011
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- TCU's Greg McCoy has been named the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week for his record-setting performance in the Baylor game.
McCoy set a TCU record with 229 kickoff return yards on six attempts at Baylor. The previous TCU mark was 191 yards on eight returns by Cory Rodgers against Louisville in 2004.
The 229 yards by McCoy also equaled Rodgers' record for total return yards in a game. In addition to the 191 kickoff return yards versus Louisville, Rodgers added three punt returns for 38 yards in the contest.
McCoy's first two kickoff returns against Baylor went for 73 and 68 yards to set up TCU scores. The 73-yard effort was the second-longest return of his career, trailing only an 81-yard touchdown at Wyoming in 2009.
McCoy holds TCU's single-season kickoff return record with a 35.9 average in 2009.
