NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- TCU All-America cornerback Jason Verrett has been named a quarterfinalist for the 2013 Lott IMPACT Trophy.

Verrett was a first-team choice on all five Midseason All-America Teams released this month: CBSSports.com, ESPN.com, SI.com, USA Today and Phil Steele.

Over the last two seasons, Verrett tops the nation with 34 passes defended (7 interceptions, 27 pass breakups). Despite not many balls being thrown his way, Verrett still leads the Big 12 this season while tying for fourth nationally with 1.7 passes defended per game (1 interception, 11 pass breakups). He has 28 tackles, including 3 1/2 for loss, with a sack.

A senior from Fairfield, Calif., Verrett was an All-American last season when he led the Big 12 in both interceptions (6) and pass breakups (16) while being the only player nationally to rank in the top 10 in both categories.

Verrett will receive his TCU degree in December.

Former TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes was the 2009 recipient of the Lott IMPACT Trophy.
