AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta Sports Council has announced TCU's Anson Kelton as a candidate for the 2010 Ray Guy Award, presented to the nation's top punter.

Kelton is averaging a career-best 42.0 yards this season. Opponents have returned just 10 of 26 TCU punts for a total of 53 yards (5.3 avg.). Kelton has 12 punts inside the 20 with only three touchbacks.

Over the last two seasons, the 6-foot-4, 280-pound Kelton has placed 31 punts inside the 20 with just four touchbacks. A junior from Fort Worth, Texas, Kelton graduated from Aledo High School.

The Greater Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thomson, Ga., native and College Football Hall of Fame inductee Ray Guy. In 1973, Guy became the first punter to be selected in the first round of the National Football League draft when he was chosen by Oakland. He went on to a standout 16-year career with the Raiders.
