Kelton Announced As Ray Guy Award Candidate
Nov. 7, 2011
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta Sports Council has announced TCU's Anson Kelton as a candidate for the Ray Guy Award, recognizing the nation's top punter.
A senior and four-year starter from Fort Worth and Aledo High School, Kelton has placed 45 punts inside the 20 with just eight touchbacks over the last three seasons. As a freshman, 30 of his 54 punts (55.6 percent) were inside the 20.
Kelton had a career-best 50.2 average, including a long of 55, on four punts at Air Force in September. His season-long 57-yard boot came at San Diego State. He has six kicks of at least 50 yards this year.
Kelton has had two of his top performances in TCU's BCS appearances the last two seasons.
An unsung hero in the Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin, Kelton twice pinned the Badgers inside their own 11-yard line in the second half. For the game, Wisconsin's average starting field position was its own 20.
In the 2010 Fiesta Bowl, Kelton averaged 48.4 yards on eight punts with three inside the 20.
