FORT WORTH – TCU football’s Spencer Thompson and rifle’s Sarah Scherer are the November Scholar-Athletes of the Month, it was announced Friday.
Thompson, who is on track to earn his Master’s degree in December, helped the Horned Frogs to a 3-0 record during the month of November. Included in that record is TCU’s 36-35 upset of No. 5 Boise State.
A backup offensive lineman at nearly every position, the Planview, Texas, native helped pave the way for the TCU running back corps during November. Against Colorado State, the Frogs rolled up a 255-yard rushing performance and a 390-yard outburst against Wyoming.
Scherer tallied only the fourth perfect score in NCAA history on Nov. 1 when she fired a 600 in the air rifle as the Frogs knocked off Alaska. She was tied her personal best in the smallbore with a 589.
The Fort Worth, Texas, native improved on that smallbore personal best later in the month in a win over Jacksonville State. She fired a 591 on that day and a 597 in the air rifle. Scherer paced the Frogs in all five of their wins during November.
